Mega is a cloud storage service for users to store their files securely on the Web. The site boasts 50GB of free storage space and features a simple drag and drop upload system quite like Google Drive and Dropbox. Mega also offers Pro subscriptions where you can pay from €9.99 to €29.99 and attain up to 4TB of storage space and 8TB of bandwidth. While Mega doesn’t have any exciting features that make it stand out from other file sharing sites, Kim Dotcom promises to add “MegaMovie” - a section which allows you to view movies, television shows, and music. The site appears to have the ability to add friends and exchange recommendations. He posted this on Twitter taunting the Motion Picture Association of America.

Furthermore, in a blog post, Dotcom detailed new features he would be working on for the site, including on-site applications such as a calendar, word processor, and spreadsheet application. He is also working on desktop clients for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. Mega also plans to incorporate instant messaging between users, file attachments via messages, and other small enhancements. There are also plans for mobile access, however, if movies are made available through clients, it is very unlikely the app will make through the App Store approval process. Kim Dotcom’s comeback has been an intense one and when MegaMovie launches it will be very interesting to see how thing’s play out, given the nature and legality of the website. What do you think about Megaupload’s successor? Which features are you looking forward to? Let us know!
